The assemblage of four buildings of varied scale and materiality enhances the aesthetic appeal of the new Green Square Town Centre while delivering 323 light-filled inner-city homes in a high-density environment.
The health and wellbeing of occupants was a key factor in the design of each building, where the opportunities for dual aspect and cross flow ventilation are maximised.
Located at the southern gateway to Green Square on an irregular 5,903 sqm site, a 23-level tower, The Frederick, serves as a charismatic counterpoint to two mid-rise buildings, Portman on the Park and Portman House.
Portman St Terraces, a row of seven four-level contemporary terraces enables a respectful transition from the larger scale of the new Town Centre to the Victorian terrace housing of Zetland鈥檚 heritage precinct.
Laneways activated by retail spaces add to the dynamism of the Town Centre and provide pedestrian links that connect the old and the new.
This project skilfully contributes to the emerging urban fabric at Green Square. It demonstrates excellent city making by delivering an assemblage of well-designed buildings of varied scale, articulation, and materiality, mediating the fine grain of terrace homes and the larger scale of the new Town Centre and The Drying Green Park.鈥听
The project establishes a street character that adds colour and diversity to the Town Centre by activating the ground plane with a mix of garden entry courts, new through-site pedestrian links and architecturally modulated 鈥渇ine grain鈥 retail shopfronts.鈥听
The apartment multi core typology delivers high levels of residential amenity which is augmented by a strong commitment to biophilic interventions with green walls, facade planters, garden entry courts and lush landscape.鈥
The four buildings designed by CO-AP, Smart Design Studio and Mirvac Design, fulfil the aspiration for luxury inner-city dwellings that prioritise the health and wellbeing of residents.
Designed to capture natural light and ventilation and optimise park and city views, the diversity of dwellings aligns with the evolving demographics of Green Square as it matures.
The assemblage of buildings of varied scale, articulation, and materiality creates a characterful street presence that adds colour and diversity to the Town Centre. Laneways activated by retail spaces provide pedestrian links that help to make Green Square a well-used and loved neighbourhood.Client perspective
