Moxy Sydney Airport, a Marriott Hotel, redefines the airport hotel experience with a bold, socially engaged design for RF Corval Hotels. Located in Sydney’s vibrant Mascot precinct, the hotel blends Moxy’s energetic brand identity with the area’s industrial heritage, creating a contemporary yet locally rooted destination.
Designed to integrate seamlessly with its urban surroundings, the open-plan ground floor activates the street frontage with dynamic food and beverage offerings, co-working spaces, and retail areas. Public art installations by Elliott Routledge further enhance its cultural significance.
Architecturally, the hotel features a robust four-story podium of concrete, steel, and brick, supporting a refined nine-story tower with curtain-wall glazing. Sustainability is central, with passive design principles, high-performance glazing, and extensive greening.
With 301 guest rooms, flexible social spaces, and a focus on community engagement, Moxy Sydney Airport sets a new benchmark for lifestyle-driven airport hotels, offering a vibrant and memorable hospitality experience.
Challenging our expectations of the airport hotel typology, the project embraces the individuality of its place to establish a dynamic, social space and a fundamental resource – not only for travelling guests, but the local Mascot community.
Within the new hotel, strategic financial decisions have been made, prioritising the visitor experience within careful consideration of construction costs. Efficient spatial planning consciously creates smaller guestrooms by area, prioritising square metres for public and social spaces. With this approach, guestrooms emphasise quality over quantity – quirky, space-saving details delight in providing just what might be needed for a short stay – exuding both comfort and fun.
The entry sequence hinges around a foyer that could be expansive and impersonal; yet confounds this to produce a succession of spaces that feel warm, communal and individual – this is a bold response imbued with flexibility and generosity.
Moxy Sydney Airport redefines the traditional airport hotel, offering a space for both locals and travellers. The design prioritises flexibility with versatile spaces for socialising, relaxing, or meetings. A key design challenge was maximising space while maintaining openness and comfort. The hotel uses space-saving solutions like multi-functional furniture, such as boardroom tables that double as ping-pong tables, and built-in storage. The communal areas encourage social interaction while offering privacy and flexibility, catering to all guest needs.
