One Sydney Harbour by Lendlease was envisioned as an iconic residential project befitting one of the world鈥檚 most spectacular natural harbours. Designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) in collaboration with Guernier Architecture and PTW Architects, the project showcases world-class architecture, sustainability, and innovation in urban design.
Located on Sydney鈥檚 western foreshore, the towers align with the fan-shaped grid of the Barangaroo Masterplan and mediate the threshold between Hickson Park and the Barangaroo commercial district.
RPBW鈥檚 vision was for the towers to embody lightness and transparency, harmonising with the shimmering harbour through reflective yet highly transparent glass fa莽ades. The development is defined by its simple yet elegant architectural forms which have an understated presence on the Sydney skyline.
As the final piece of Barangaroo South, Australia鈥檚 largest carbon-neutral precinct, One Sydney Harbour exemplifies luxury, sustainability, and innovation, contributing to a transformative urban renewal project that redefines Sydney鈥檚 western foreshore.
The project achieves its competition design vision to provide three 鈥渞efined and enduring鈥 residential towers. Inspired by the play of light on harbour waters, the buildings gently reflect the changing sky, with clear 鈥榣ow iron鈥 glazed facades possessing a uniquely crystalline character in the Sydney skyline.鈥听
The built form successfully utilises a radial grid based on analysis of Barangaroo South view-sharing and public domain sight lines, resulting in a pedestrian galleria that connects Hickson Park to Waterman鈥檚 Cove. The tangential forms use intelligent floor plate and apartment planning to resolve the potential difficulties of adequate tower building separation and view sharing.鈥听
In the context of a debate surrounding the environmental impact of glazed super tall towers, this design delivers a 6-star Greenstar, net-zero residential building utilising naturally ventilated, highly transparent double skin glass fa莽ades, shaded by integrated adjustable blinds as well as operable wintergardens to provide residents with fresh air and sweeping views of the harbour.鈥听
