A modest extension to a Queensland workers cottage ,built on an existing deck structure to reduce costs, was designed to engage with ground, sky and tree canopy. The rear elevation takes the form of four quadrants, providing an emphasis and connection to different part of the site from each.
On a small suburban lot, the design gives an importance on landscape and provides multiple place to sit, either together or alone depending on time of day, mood or activity. The internal rooms have distinct characters and outlook whilst remaining connected to each other.
Doing more with less, the rejuvenated house can accommodate large gatherings and intimate moments, all whilst filtering the suburb at large and providing a calm, private retreat for the young family to enjoy time together.
Our intention when engaging KGA was to create a functional space for our young family, while having a strong connection to the outdoors.
The results seamlessly integrate indoor living areas with lush greenery outside, creating a space that feels both cozy and expansive.
Whether we are enjoying our morning coffee beneath a canopy of cascading plants, or resting in bed at night observing the stars, our connection to the outdoors has become integrated into our daily lives.
