The Kaurna People
South Australia
The Fisher Street house is nestled in the heart of the historic Adelaide suburb of Malvern. The typology of the area is characterised by the architecture of stone fronted villas set on quarter acre blocks. Attracted to the charm and character of these villas and to the spectacular tree lined streets, our clients who have a young family of two children, wished to compliment their old house by building a new addition that reflected their more modern lifestyle requirements.
In contrast to the introverted formal planning of the original villa, the addition which houses the main living spaces, is an open planned design with high ceilings and an abundance of natural light.
Due to the limited budget requirements, an emphasis was placed on meeting the spatial needs of the brief, whilst still trying to maximise the perceived level of quality through modest material selections where possible.
Con’s design has truly maximised the north facing aspect to the rear addition and the use of 650 sqm.
All year round, entertaining is a pleasure – indoors or outdoors complete with fireplace, pool and spa.
In the winter months lovely sunshine pours through the large windows providing a vista to the garden.
Con is the master of old and new. The generous hallway provides a seamless transition between our 1880s villa, also a ‘local heritage place’ and the new.
Con has insatiable attention to detail in everything – and our family are the beneficiaries of a functional and aesthetically beautiful home.
