South Australian CHAPTER
The South Australian Chapter of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ represents and supports the interests of members across the state, championing architecture that enriches communities and enhances the built environment.
We advance the profession through education, advocacy, and public engagement. Our ongoing work with local and state governments helps influence policy outcomes that shape South Australia’s built environment, while partnerships with media and industry promote wider recognition of the value of good design.
We proudly celebrate and support our members through an active program of awards, prizes, and regional tours, as well as the prestigious Fellowship and Life Fellowship recognition programs. Members also benefit from access to extensive professional development opportunities, including CPD and practice resources tailored to all stages of an architectural career.
Together, we foster a vibrant and inclusive architectural community that values leadership, innovation, and a shared commitment to shaping a better future through design.

Continuing Education

CPD in SA
CPD is a requirement for all architects registered in South Australia and is regulated by the Architecture Practice Board of South Australia (APBSA).Ìý The rules for CPD in SA can be found here.
CPD activities help you build your business, keep pace with current trends, enhance your recruitment and develop the skills you need to provide the best service to your clients. The SA Chapter is always happy to consider themes and topics that are of particular interest to our members, so if there is CPD that you would like to see please get in touch.
For any queries about what qualifies as CPD, please contact the APBSA.
Attribution
At the Institute we often see images of a building in an article in the media that do not attribute the architect for the project.
As author of the work, the architect has moral rights in relation to the design and should be attributed when images of the work – whether digital renders, hand drawings or photographs – are published.Ìý Even where copyright in the projects is transferred to the client, as is the case with projects for government and some private client organisations, the architect retains moral rights.Ìý
Where images are provided to the media this information should be included by the client for the project, where construction is yet to occur.Ìý Once the building is completed, it is the building owner’s responsibility to provide this information.Ìý Attribution of the photographer or artist, where applicable, is also required, but does not negate the requirement to attribute the architect.
We’ve developed some form letters around media attribution to be sent under Institute letterhead reminding people of their role. Please feel free to use these templates or contact the SA Chapter if you would like us to send it on your behalf.

ARchi Ed
archi ed is a task group of the SA Chapter of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ. We want to encourage an appreciation of architecture and the built environment in school students and the wider community. We will do this by introducing school students to the world of architecture, the thinking behind architectural design and the many factors that contribute to what, where, how and why buildings are constructed.
Designers for Diversity
SA Designers for Diversity exists to ensure that architecture and affiliated designers of built environments can work in a profession that is equally and meaningfully navigable for all practitioners, regardless of gender, age, race, sexual preference, family structure, whether able-bodied, living with a medical condition or disability. We also value and recognise these qualities in the built environment.

Notable Buildings Register
SA Notable Buildings register
The South Australia Chapter Notable Buildings Register is a curated listing of architecturally significant structures that reflect the state’s rich cultural and built heritage. It showcases early- to mid‑20th-century buildings in South Australia—including civic, residential, commercial, and ecclesiastical works—deemed historically or aesthetically important by heritage architects from the Institute.
This register forms part of the Institute’s broader commitment to documenting, conserving, and raising awareness of the state’s heritage architecture. Using strict criteria involving aesthetic value, historical context, social relevance, and technical innovation, it represents South Australia’s most noteworthy contributions to the built environment.
