Onda reimagines a dilapidated bungalow-style dwelling in a riverside suburb of Perth to create a modern family home. Working within the existing architectural shell, we reconfigured the layout and introduced fluid curves to maximise space and circulation while embracing city views without compromising privacy. A considered material palette of limestone, timber, and natural stone complements the home’s undulating forms to impart a calming environment in which daily life unfolds.
Onda by State of Kin is a transformative interior architecture project that reimagines a riverside bungalow into a refined, expressive family home. Working within the original structure, the design delivers a complete spatial reconfiguration, placing emphasis on movement, sculptural form, and sensory experience.
Central to the project is the interplay of fluid geometry and light. A sculptural ceiling in the upper living area forms a dynamic internal landscape, establishing spatial hierarchy while enhancing volume and flow. Curved walls and custom joinery elements subtly guide circulation, while reinforcing a cohesive visual language across the interior.
Materiality is deeply considered—limestone, natural stone, and warm timber finishes are layered to create texture, softness, and continuity. These elements anchor the interior and respond to the home’s natural surroundings, cultivating a calm and grounded atmosphere.
With a focus on spatial richness over surface embellishment, Onda reflects a mature approach to interior architecture. It demonstrates how thoughtful reconfiguration and material restraint can radically enhance liveability while celebrating craft and context. The result is a home that is both bold and tranquil—imbued with personality, sophistication, and a sense of ease.
Onda, is the culmination of 25 years of thinking about all the things, big and small, that we would want if we could have them in our ultimate house.
It is ambitious, complex and unique – and it is exactly the family home that we wanted with different areas and spaces throughout. We wanted it to be a place that our kids and their friends can come to and enjoy with us – whether its cooking pizzas with a beer on the balcony or shooting hoops on the basketball court.
We could not be happier with the end product that is Onda.
