2025 King’s Birthday Honours List recipients

Join the Institute in congratulating these six deserving built environment professionals, who have been recognised in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours:

Officer of the Order of Australia (AO):

– Professor Corbett Lyon LFRAIA AO, a Founding Director of Lyons Architecture, has provided architecture leadership in Australia over more than three decades, which has deeply enriched our built environment across the country. As a passionate educator and art patron, he’s fostered cross-disciplinary dialogues and helped elevate the quality and depth of architectural discourse across the nation. His work at the Lyon Housemuseum – a fusion of art, domestic space, and museum design – is symbolic of architecture lived and shared.

Member of the Order of Australia (AM):

– Mr John Held LFRAIA AM, long-time Director of Russell and Yelland Architects, but also National Vice‑President and then National President of the Association of Consulting Architects, and Deputy Chair of the Australian Construction Industry Forum – has profoundly guided our profession. Under his guidance, the ACA has advanced critical issues including building quality, risk management, fair workplaces, and professional development.

– Mr Robert McGauran LFRAIA AM, Founding Director of MGS Architects, has consistently embodied a research‑driven and socially engaged approach, shaping projects in Hobart, Geelong, Melbourne, and Canberra. From masterplans for Monash University, UNSW Canberra, and RMIT’s City North Innovation Campus, to pioneering social housing initiatives such as Ozanam House, Rushall Park, and Woodstock Rooming House, he has elevated environmental sustainability and social inclusion to the core of design practice.

– Professor George Zillante AM, as Head of the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Adelaide, his interdisciplinary leadership and scholarship have strengthened both the academic and professional foundations of architecture and construction in Australia. With a diverse background spanning architecture, urban planning, building surveying, and construction management, his applied research has shaped teaching, legislative reform, and industry standards – advancing sustainable and safe practice across the built environment sector.

Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM):

– Mr. Geoffrey Watt FRAIA OAM, Founder and Managing Director of Watt and Partners Architects for over four decades. As a dedicated civic leader, he’s served as Trustee of the Eltham Cemetery Trust since 1980, and as a Director and Life Member of Eltham College.

– Mr Neville Page FRAIA OAM, Founding Partner of Greenway Hirst Page (GHP Architects) in Melbourne. The medal recognises his contribution to the community in numerous ways, including Rotary groups, particularly as President of the North Melbourne Rotary Group and hosting international students; involvement in North and West Melbourne Precinct Association as office bearer and Board member; and services to the Jewish Community in school fundraising and member of various committees.
