Each year, the culmination of the Australian Institute of Architect’s awards program draws a national crowd and bolsters interest for the hosting city’s architectural presence. This year’s awards are bookmarked by a series of significant events that showcase excellence and innovation in Australian architecture, and all Australians are invited to join this celebration of architecture in Canberra.

Starting Wednesday, 5 November, the Institute will relaunch the Parliamentary Friends of Australian Urban Design in the 48th Parliament of Australia. Led by the Ӱ, the Planning Institute of Australia, and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, this initiative marks a collaborative effort to champion excellence in urban design and influence government policies for the betterment of our built environment.

The 2025 National Architecture Awards will be held at the National Gallery of Australia on 6 November. The awards program enables public and peer recognition of the innovative work of Institute members on a

national stage. Across 13 categories, 64 projects have been shortlisted including two international projects.

Continuing through to Friday, 7 November at the Shine Dome, the Design Speaks ArchitectureAu Asks symposium will feature industry leaders responding to a provocation from Camilla Block (Durbach Block Jaggers) on the current state of the architectural competition system and the urgent need for reform. The week will culminate with the Griffin Lecture and presented by Gregory Burgess with moderation by Dr Shaneen Fantin.

Concurrent with these events, the Canberra Museum and Gallery is hosting a series of talks and tours related to the Taglietti: Life In Design exhibition, which explores the work of visionary architect Enrico Taglietti.

Gregory Burgess and Enrico Taglietti are both globally renowned architects and recipients of the Gold Medal, the highest honour awarded by the Ӱ.

“The 2025 National Architecture Awards Week is a pivotal moment for our profession,” said Cameron Bruhn, CEO of the Ӱ. “By delivering an engaging program around our awards, we strengthen our commitment to design excellence and broaden the experience we offer attendees.”
