Dear International Members,
The Institute’s International Chapter is proud to share the recent success of the Boarding Pass, a hybrid format, as well as the 2025 International Chapter Architecture Awards, which have gained global visibility for Australian architecture and encouraged deeper international collaboration among our members and partners.
Our latest Boarding Pass event was a resounding success, bringing together a truly international audience across two live locations, Singapore and Hong Kong, with remote participation from Buchan, Australia, for the Australian Pavilion. It featured speakers from Chee Huang, DP Architects Singapore, for the Singapore Pavilion, and Sunnie Lau for the Hong Kong Exhibition at the Venice Architecture Biennale. The discussion explored national pavilion exhibitions at the World Expo Osaka 2025 and the Venice Architecture Biennale.
This hybrid event reflected on the pavilion as an archetype, a critical site of experimentation, cultural identity, and spatial storytelling. Our speakers provided insightful perspectives on sustainability, national narrative, and innovation in design practice. The event was proudly supported by RIBA International, SIA, HKIA, and RAIA International, and it is an accredited CPD programme in Singapore.
At the International Chapter Architecture Awards in Osaka, we are also proud to report the success of the recent event held at the Australian Pavilion in Osaka during the World Expo. This special occasion was made possible through the support of DFAT, the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, and our leadership team, including CEO Cameron Bruhn, President Elect David Wagner, and the ever-supportive Fiona McMullen, along with Jennifer Nichols and Loren Bates, from the International Chapter team.
Once again, the awards highlight the strength and diversity of Australian architecture internationally. We warmly congratulate all the winners and finalists, as well as our dedicated jury, led by Jury Chair Wei Jien Ito, along with jurors Luke Hayward, Vince Pirrello, and Natalie Ward.
We are especially thankful to our International Chapter Counsellors, Samantha Cotterell, Luke Hayward, Nailah Masayu, Justin Hill, Vui Choong, and John Chow, for their dedication and generosity in supporting the event. A special thank you to Samantha for her warm and eloquent role as MC, and to Justin for his gracious gesture of hosting dinner after the event.
These events reflect the remarkable spirit of generosity, creativity, and collegiality that characterises our international chapter and our dedicated efforts within the international community. They reaffirm our mutual commitment to connecting, showcasing, and honouring Australian architects working overseas.
Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and celebrated with us.
